Puzzles for your brain!

Hello again! This page is more of an entertainment page, where you can test your brain with these challenging puzzles!
I have not made these riddles up, and most of them are from other websites. Some of them are from Tolkien - mostly the Hobbit -  see if you can spot them!
(Answers are at the bottom, so try not to cheat!)

  1. I am the beginning of the end, and the end of time and space. I am essential to creation, and I surround every place. What am I?
  2.  At night they come without being fetched. By day they are lost without being stolen. What are they?
  3.  I am always hungry,
    I must always be fed,
    The finger I touch,
    Will soon turn red
  4.  Each morning I appear
    To lie at your feet,
    All day I will follow
No matter how fast you run,
    Yet I nearly perish
    In the midday sun.
  5.  How far will a blind dog walk into a forest?
  6.  Alive without breath,
    As cold as death,
    Clad in mail never clinking,
    Never thirsty, ever drinking.
  7.  What has roots that nobody sees,
    Is taller than trees,
    Up, up it goes,
    Yet it never grows?
  8.  This thing all things devours,
    Birds, beasts, trees, and flowers.
    Gnaws iron bites steel,
    Grinds hard stones to meal,
    Slays king, ruins town,
    And beats high mountain down
  9.  It cannot be seen, it cannot be felt,
Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt,
Lies behind stars and under hills,
    And empty holes it fills.
    Comes first follows after,
    Ends life kills laughter.
  10.  An eye in a blue face
Saw an eye in a green face.
'That eye is like this eye'
    Said the first eye,
    'But in
low place, not in high place'.
  11.  You throw away the outside and cook the inside. Then you eat the outside and throw away the inside. What did you eat?
  12.  What does this represent?
    Standing
    World
  13.  No-leg lay on one leg, two-legs sat near on three-legs, four-legs got some.
  14.  Voiceless it cries,
    Wingless flutters,
    Toothless bites,
    Mouth-less mutters
  15.  Above our heads, a vault of changing colour, a sign to start, a sign to stop, the stage on which light and dark follow each other.
There are only fifteen here, and they are relatively easy in places, but see if you can guess them without seeing these answers:

  1. The letter 'e'
  2. Stars
  3. Fire
  4. (Your) Shadow
  5. Halfway (it will start walking out of the forest after that point)
  6. A fish
  7. A mountain
  8. Time
  9. Darkness
  10.  The sun on the daisies
  11. An ear of corn
  12. Standing on top of the World
  13. Fish on a one-legged table, a man at the table sitting on a three-legged stool, the cat has the bones
  14. Wind
  15. The sky!

I hope you liked these riddles, and I might expand on them later. For now, this is more than enough!
See you soon!
